A new transactional currency for Architects and Designers?
Not so distant future, the clients both commercial and domestic clients will be paying carbon credits as complete or part fees to Architects and Designers. Clients will be willing to take the extra step to go carbon neutral, who will be rewarded by generous carbon credits by the government to then sell to the Architects and Designers or keep for later. The Architects and Designers can negotiate a premium fee to deliver buildings of high environmental credentials. Hopefully, this will make a large number of architects and designers who are designing and providing ordinary large buildings to reconsider their practice.
These small transactional incentives from our government will ignite interest and enthusiasm from the market to pursue green projects and achieve agreed Paris agreement carbon emission targets. Few other benefits of this scheme are :
- New building typologies, Materials and ways of living developed.
- Behavioural changes in the market
- New technologies and efficient building systems developed.
- Until now, only a few sectors are allowed to transact carbon credits in the market. Everyone who builds and associated with the building industry to become a trader.
- Due to the ongoing benefit of maintaining the eco-credentials, the clients may employ Architects and Designers for the maintenance and behavioural assessment of the buildings.
- Regenerative buildings will receive premium carbon credits rather than sustainable buildings.
- All the refurbished projects will receive additional carbon credits rather than demolishing existing buildings.
- McMansions will get less or no carbon credentials and will incur additional yearly costs to keep it running.
